List of best brands for volleyball shoes
Let’s take a closer look at each brand and explain why these brands deserve the label as one of the best brands for volleyball.
Mizuno
Mizonu finds it’s origin in Japan where it was founded in 1906 and is a large sports equipment and sportswear store.
When talking about volleyball shoe brands, Mizuno is one of the first brands to come to mind.
Mizuno very clearly focuses on accessories, clothes and shoes. That Mizuno is mainly known for their wide selection of high quality volleyball shoes is no surprise to most volleyball players.
Mizuno also got featured on our list of best cheap volleyball shoes, so they also produce budget-friendly shoes.
They are very well known for volleyball shoes, but they are also known in the basketball world.
Some of the key characteristics of Mizuno shoes:
- Lightweight: Mizuno shoes are pretty lightweight volleyball shoes (on average). It’s one characteristic that many players who like Mizuno especially praise them for.
- Not that much cushioning: If you like lots of cushioning, Mizuno might not be the best brand for you. However, every shoe is different of course and one Mizuno shoe has more cushioning than the other. I would still recommend ASICS to someone who like a lot of cushioning.
- Great traction: Most reliable volleyball shoe brands do have good traction on their shoes. However, Mizuno really delivers a good grip.
Except for shoes they do also have volleyball specific clothing, shorts, knee pads, shirts, etc.
The best Mizuno volleyball shoes: Mizuno Wave momentum
Obviously, there are many more good volleyball shoes to choose from. These are also my personal picks, but I know they are backed by many volleyball players.
Other very solid volleyball shoes from Mizuno are: the Lightning and the Wave tornado.
ASICS
ASICS is a Japanese multinational corporation which produces sportswear.
ASICS is a much larger company than Mizuno and has a far wider focus in terms of sportswear.
However, this does not mean that their volleyball products -and especially the volleyball shoes- are less valuable.
ASICS is probably the most popular brand when it comes to volleyball shoes (at least, at the time of writing).
They make high-quality, durable, well-cushioned volleyball shoes, usually for a relatively cheap price. Long story short, there are few reasons not to like ASICS as a volleyball shoe brand.
ASICS obviously focuses on more than only shoes. So if you are looking for volleyball clothes, ASICS also has a wide selection.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the key characteristics of an ASICS volleyball shoe.
- Durable: Many ASICS volleyball shoes have been known to last a really long time.
- Well-cushioned: Players who love well-cushioned shoes have been praising ASICS.
- Budget-friendly: Like all brands, ASICS has cheaper and more expensive options. However, overall, ASICS has been a very budget-friendly brand that provides great value.
The best ASICS volleyball shoes: Gel-Rockets
There is a huge selection to choose from. Also, it really depends on what you are looking for. However, I really like the ASICS Gel-Rockets because they are just so great as an overall volleyball shoe.
However, you are free to take a look at their other volleyball shoes.
Nike
Another brand that’s obviously very well-known in the sports industry would be Nike.
Since Nike is basically everywhere when it comes to sport, it should be no surprise that they are also popular among volleyball players.
Lots of their basketball shoes are also very much loved by volleyball players. As you may or may not know, basketball shoes are often used in volleyball because they have so many characteristics that we are looking for in volleyball shoes.
Nike is known to make high quality volleyball shoes, but they are a lot more expensive than most other brands. Especially when we compare them to ASICS.
Let’s try to summarize the Nike:
- High overall quality: Nike is categorized as high quality overall and usually makes great all round products. This counts for official volleyball shoes, but also their basketball shoes that are very suitable for volleyball.
- Support: Generally, Nike has been praised for the support in their volleyball shoes
- Expensive: We can’t get around the fact that you do pay a large amount of money for this quality and looks.
For women, the Nike Women’s React Hyperset shoes are very popular:
And with good reason, these shoes are very high quality, good grip, very comfortable, well-cushioned, durable… Basically everything you would want from a volleyball shoe. However, these shoes are not cheap.
For men, the Kyrie Infinity Basketball shoes are very popular for volleyball (Yes, even though they are officially basketball shoes).
Once again, these are high quality shoes that offer pretty much everything you would want in a volleyball shoe. However, these are not budget-friendly.
Adidas
You probably would have guessed it, but adidas can’t be missed on this list of best volleyball brands for shoes.
Adidas is known to be a safe option in many sports. In volleyball, I would also like to call adidas a safe volleyball shoe brand.
Adidas isn’t mentioned as much as the other brands within the volleyball world. However, they do actually make pretty solid volleyball shoes. Also, the players who do use adidas shoes are generally really happy with them.
You could almost see adidas as an in-between brand. They are cheaper than Nike, but more expensive than ASICS (on average).
There are very few adidas volleyball shoes that are “flawed”. Some are better received than others, but overall the quality is simply solid.
So, what’s typical for adidas as a volleyball shoe brand
- Not many flaws – Adidas is usually the safe brand. The shoes are not cheap, but also not very expensive. However, you are almost sure to not buy a bad product. They usually produce good all round, overall volleyball shoes without many flaws.
- Durable – Adidas has been praised many times for the durability of their volleyball shoes.
Some of the best adidas volleyball shoes are the CrazyFlight Volleyball shoes. These are available for both men and women.
The best price for these shoes can usually be found here:
What’s important for a good volleyball shoe brand
I always like to be fully transparent in terms of how I decide which brands make the list. There are a couple of factors that I take into account.
So what are we looking for in the best brand for volleyball shoes
Price – Obviously, if you are looking for the best cheap volleyball shoes, price is an important factor. I do consider all options on the list budget-friendly, but there is still a pretty big difference between the most expensive and the cheapest option on this list.
Comfort – Nothing is as bad as being uncomfortable in your feet when working out or playing a game.
Support – When playing volleyball, your body requires your feet to be in a stable position and provide support to your ankles, legs and knees.
Grip – Usually, a dedicated sport shoe has a good amount of grip. However, it’s still an important factor to compare.
Cushioning – How well are the shoes cushioned? For some volleyball players, this is a huge factor, others don’t really mind less cushioning. Still, it’s important for a lot of players, so it’s a ranking factor.
Weight – There are many reasons why you don’t want your shoes to be too heavy. The lighter, the better, as long as we don’t have to make any compromises, of course.
Brand awareness – If a certain brand has great products that have both good value and good quality, it’s still no guarantee that it would get a good brand rating. When talking about the best volleyball brands, we do focus on brand awareness and production quantity. In other words, a brand needs to be large enough before considered a solid option for our selection. We don’t work with a hard cap, but a brand should have a fairly big production quantity and should be known by a lot of volleyball players.
Best brand for volleyball shoes – conclusion
So let’s conclude our post about the brands for volleyball shoes.
Mizuno, ASICS, Nike and Adidas are considered the best volleyball shoe brands.
Mizuno is mainly known for their focus on volleyball shoes. These shoes are usually lightweight and have good traction. However, they are often not as cushioned as most other shoes from other brands.
ASICS produces high quality and budget-friendly volleyball shoes. They are very praised for their durability as well. They also have a nice amount of cushioning in their volleyball shoes.
Nike is usually a bit more expensive than the other brands. However, they do provide high quality and good-looking volleyball shoes. They also have a lot of shoes within their basketball assortment that are very much loved by volleyball players.
Adidas is a nice in-between option for those of you who feel like Nike is simply a bit too expensive. Similar to ASICS, Adidas is also praised for durability. They also are a safe decision because not many of their volleyball shoes have real “flaws”.
For making our selection of the best brands for volleyball shoes, we took a look at the brand awareness. However, we mainly focused on the shoes that these brands are producing. We compared weight, cushioning, grip, support, comfort and price to decide which brands deserved a spot on this list.
